“e-home of the future” - At “Projekt 4” in Berlin, Sharp technology and products give a glimpse of the home and office of the future

Hamburg, 22.11.2011

On 22 November, “Projekt 4” opens its doors in Berlin. This core renovation and redevelopment of a former textile factory in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin features an “e-office of the future”, “e-apartments” and the “e‑living2022” showroom. These exhibits give visitors a comprehensive preview of the standards that our living space will be expected to meet in the future.  Sharp is supporting this project with energy efficient and user-friendly technological solutions produced by its environmentally advanced factories. Products from a variety of fields, such as LC displays, LCD TVs, printing systems and solar panels are used in the building.

For over a year, workers tore down walls, dismantled dilapidated piping, removed power cables and distributors and installed a new sanitation system and underfloor heating, in order to convert the former textile factory in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin into something new and special. This initiative, named “Projekt 4”, is part of the larger building media project “e-home of the future” launched by media entrepreneur Dirk Fabarius, and is designed to tackle key themes such as building standards for the homes of the future, the use of sustainable materials and energy-saving equipment, flexible adaptation of the environment to individual needs and the comfortable integration of living and working space. Consequently, with the completion of the interior, Sharp products have now also been installed in the apartments, offices and showrooms of the building, which has been fully renovated as an energy efficiency exhibition centre. For one year, visitors now have the opportunity to inspect “Projekt 4” and learn all about forward-looking technologies.

“We are very much looking forward to the imminent opening of ‘Projekt 4’, because in our own developments ecological sustainability also has a top priority, alongside maximum customer benefit. In the showcased e-apartments and e-office of the future, visitors will be able to see for themselves the beneficial effects that the intelligent technologies of Sharp and others will have on our future living and working conditions, whilst also contributing to the protection of our environment,” comments Maximilian Huber, Managing Director of Sharp Electronics Europe.

Products from the fields of consumer electronics, professional displays, digital printing systems, air purifiers and the photovoltaic sector are used in this 2,600 square metre building. Entertainment in the “e-apartments” is provided by AQUOS LCD TVs of the LE925E and LE830E series. These TVs, with their energy-saving technologies such as intelligent LED backlighting and Quattron four-colour system, are ideally suited to the energy efficiency concept of “Projekt 4”. Multifunction printing systems from Sharp provide productive and environment-conscious document management in the “e-office of the future”. Two 60-inch touchscreens that ensure efficient, convenient and creative interworking in the building with their intuitive user interface can also be used to control the building automation if required. In the showroom, a video wall consisting of a grid of three by three PN-V601 LC displays, which are networked with all the other displays in the building, provides visitors with the latest information. A photovoltaic system installed on the building’s carport delivers clean energy for the electric vehicle parked ready for use.
